Jose de Reyes has more than 15 years of experience advising domestic and foreign clients in Mexico and the United States in different areas of law. He currently counsels clients on transactional and regulatory matters involving banking, finance and corporate law, as well as on compliance issues, including local regulatory requirements and industry best practices.

His former experience includes:

• serving as deputy general counsel for one of Mexico's largest banks, with responsibility for legal matters in its Global Banking, Global Markets and Commercial Banking divisions (over 150,000 multinational, large, medium and small corporate clients), as well as for other legal entities of the financial group in Mexico, including its broker dealer, bonding company and mutual fund manager;

• serving as general counsel and chief compliance officer in Mexico of one of the largest global financial institutions;

• as a consultant, representing financial institutions before regulatory authorities, including the National Banking and Securities Commission and Mexican Central Bank for the startup and operation of their activities in Mexico;

• in his several responsibilities, negotiating agreements in the financial, capital markets, corporate and commercial areas; coordinating mergers and acquisitions as well as public and private operations to finance clients (credit agreements, capital and debt offerings, etc.); conducting strategic legal planning of domestic and foreign investments in Mexico and handling corporate matters in general. 

Jose obtained his law degree from the Escuela Libre de Derecho in Mexico and his Master in Laws degree from Columbia University. He is a Fulbright Scholar and is admitted to practice in Mexico and New York.
